They are a danger to themselves. In my opinion, with the exception of Oz regional and domestic services the minimum tech crew should be increased rom 2 to 3 pilots so how come they come up with only 1. It’s a cost saving thing, forget about practical safety.

Comment on Small plane crashes into powerline tower in Maryland, US by George https://worldofaviation.com/2022/12/small-plane-crashes-into-powerline-tower-in-maryland-us/comment-page-1/#comment-118806 Fri, 02 Dec 2022 09:38:10 +0000 https://worldofaviation.com/?p=95029#comment-118806 Incredible job by the rescue responders.
Multiple challenges to overcome: A light aircraft stuck at an extreme height, power lines carrying high voltage, two severely injured occupants, securing the aircraft from falling or further complication being tangled at height.
Glad to see a positive outcome.

Comment on Airline regulators pushing for single-pilot flights by Andrew https://worldofaviation.com/2022/12/airline-regulators-pushing-for-single-pilot-flights/comment-page-1/#comment-118805 Fri, 02 Dec 2022 09:13:42 +0000 https://worldofaviation.com/?p=95025#comment-118805 Madness when there are recorded instances of pilots dying at the controls. A computer does not work in an emergency as was demonstrated with the QF Airbus 380 in SIN.

Comment on Rolls-Royce tests aircraft engine that runs on hydrogen fuel by George https://worldofaviation.com/2022/12/rolls-royce-tests-aircraft-engine-that-runs-on-hydrogen-fuel/comment-page-1/#comment-118803 Fri, 02 Dec 2022 08:25:38 +0000 https://worldofaviation.com/?p=95027#comment-118803 An idea a long time coming.
Would like to know what negative factors would need to be overcome in using Hydrogen as a fuel.
How is it stored, how much can be stored, what would be the fuel burn on a trans-oceanic flight, etc.
Hydrogen of course is plentiful.

What happens if a lone pilot suffers a heart attack, stroke or other incapacitation, such as dying?

How does a lone pilot take a toilet or rest break?

What happens when there is an emergency and there is no second pilot to work the radio to issue a pan pan or Mayday or share the sudden spike in work loads?

Honestly, there is no sense in this idea.

Comment on Repairing the Antonov An-225 will cost $500 million by Ralph Hamilton https://worldofaviation.com/2022/11/repairing-the-antonov-an-225-will-cost-500-million/comment-page-1/#comment-118548 Fri, 11 Nov 2022 09:07:48 +0000 https://worldofaviation.com/?p=94981#comment-118548 Can’t see it happening. The aircraft is 60s technology, with steam driven gauges, etc. Those devices are no longer made, and in many cases the companies who made them no longer exist.

Is it possible to rewire it and fit the latest, “Glass Cockpit” avionics.

Lovely dream though….Marum.

Comment on Hydrogen-electric aircraft come to Scotland by Ralph Hamilton https://worldofaviation.com/2022/11/hydrogen-electric-aircraft-come-to-scotland/comment-page-1/#comment-118546 Fri, 11 Nov 2022 08:58:22 +0000 https://worldofaviation.com/?p=94958#comment-118546 Great Idea. Large paks of Li batteries are too heavy and too dangerous for aircraft.

Regards….Marum

Comment on Manslaughter trial into Air France crash in 2009 begins by Craithie https://worldofaviation.com/2022/10/manslaughter-trial-into-air-france-crash-in-2009-begins/comment-page-1/#comment-118183 Wed, 19 Oct 2022 01:31:39 +0000 https://worldofaviation.com/?p=94859#comment-118183 Not good for an aircraft in a mid-flight emergency to have two pilots’ who didn’t know how to avert a disastrous stall, amongst other things.

It’s to be hoped this trial finds out all the truths’ relating to this preventable tragedy.

Comment on UK should choose trains over planes to cut emissions, says report by Graham https://worldofaviation.com/2022/10/uk-should-choose-trains-over-planes-to-cut-emissions/comment-page-1/#comment-118124 Fri, 14 Oct 2022 06:30:48 +0000 https://worldofaviation.com/?p=94868#comment-118124 Used the Eurostar between London & Paris several times. Much quicker than plane & city centre to city centre. Never used aircraft within Europe always high speed rail.

Comment on UK should choose trains over planes to cut emissions, says report by Adrian P https://worldofaviation.com/2022/10/uk-should-choose-trains-over-planes-to-cut-emissions/comment-page-1/#comment-118115 Thu, 13 Oct 2022 11:25:08 +0000 https://worldofaviation.com/?p=94868#comment-118115 Replacing a one hour flight with a four and a half hour train journey would turn a one day business trip into a two day trip (2 x 4.5= 9) and an overnight stay which is why France went with the two and half hour limit.
Not to mention the bus replacement service for wrong type of snow, broken down locomotive or track maintenance.
If building a new railway, then damage to the environment due to the civil engineering works including the destruction of any trees along the route should be considered.
Better to replace the 1.7 million cars with electric buses not forgetting the proposed short haul electric prop. aircraft.
